Winter Weather Safety Tips

Inclement weather is predicted today and tomorrow for much of our customer base in Arkansas.  Below are some tips from the Red Cross that can help keep you as safe as possible during these times.

Visit Redcrosslittlerock.org or RedCross.org for more information on how to keep safe and prepared for any emergency.

Tips for Protecting Yourself While Traveling

    •    Avoid driving when conditions include sleet, freezing rain or drizzle, snow or dense fog.

    •     If travel is necessary, keep a disaster supplies kit in your vehicle with extra food, water and blankets.

    •    If roads are wet, slow speeds below posted driving limits for safety.

    •    Be especially carefully crossing bridges and overpasses that may have black ice that is difficult to see until you’re sliding or spinning on it.

    •    Winterize your vehicle and keep the gas tank full. A full tank will keep the fuel line from freezing. You’ll also be in good shape should driving conditions require traffic standstill.

    •    In addition to your GPS, keep a map or atlas for Arkansas and for other states you may be driving to.

    •    Keep a cell phone charger in your car.  Make certain you have emergency numbers programmed.

    •    Let a friend know your time of departure, expected arrival time and route.  Periodically give them a call to let them know how you’re progressing on your trip.

Tips for Protecting Yourself While Outside

    •    Walk carefully on snowy, icy sidewalks and stairs. Pay attention for black ice.

    •    Dress in several layers of lightweight clothing, which will keep you warmer than a single heavy coat.

    •    Mittens provide more warmth to your hands than gloves. Wear a hat, preferably one that covers your ears.

    •    Wear waterproof, insulated boots to keep your feet warm and dry and to maintain your footing in ice and snow.

    •    Seek medical attention immediately if you have symptoms of hypothermia including confusion, dizziness, exhaustion and severe shivering. Watch for symptoms in others.

    •    Seek medical attention immediately if you have symptoms of frostbite including numbness, flushed gray, white, blue or yellow skin discoloration, numbness, or waxy feeling skin.

Important Disclosures Regarding the Guarantee Program
Centennial Bank is participating in the FDIC's Transaction Account Guarantee Program. Under that program, through December 31, 2009, all noninterest-bearing transaction accounts are fully guaranteed by the FDIC for the entire amount in the account. Coverage under the Transaction Account Guarantee Program is in addition to and separate from the coverage available under the FDIC's general deposit insurance rules.
