Centennial Partners with Florida Keys Healthy Start to Promote Car Seat Safety

Wednesday, November 9th, 2011

The Florida Keys Healthy Start Coalition has partnered with Centennial Bank to promote child passenger safety.  Certified technicians inspected the car seats of any parent who brought their car, child, and seat to Centennial Bank locations, most recently at the Key Largo branch.

Techs and fire department personnel worked with parents to properly fit the seat into their car, and the child safely into the seat. Many seats did not pass inspection and low cost, certified car seats were available to replace them.  Firefighters destroyed the unsafe seats so they could never be used again.

Florida Keys Healthy Start and Centennial Bank want to educate parents on the following points:

  • 3 out of 4 car seats are improperly installed
  • Most car seats expire 5 to 6 years from manufacture
  • All kids under 13 should ride in the rear seat
  • Infants should ride in rear facing car seats installed in the back seat
  • After outgrowing regular seats, kids should ride in booster seats until they are 80 lbs

Centennial Bank Teams with Florida Highway Patrol

Thursday, October 7th, 2010

Partnering with Florida Highway Patrol for National Child Safety Week, Centennial Bank was the site of two recent check points to ensure proper installation of child seats and booster seats.  Trooper Nelvys Hernandez, Occupant Protection Specialist with Florida Highway Patrol, spent Monday in Marathon at the Main branch and Tuesday in Key Largo at the Centennial Bank checking how people had installed their own seats, as well as making available booster seats and child seats with a proven safety record.  In a matter of hours, more than 20 families benefited from these services.  “This is such a necessary service for the families in the Keys with small children,” said Centennial Bank’s Stephanie Scuderi.  “For the number of kids we have in the Keys, we’re excited to bring Trooper Hernandez’s expertise into our community.”  Given the strong response, Trooper Hernandez will return Thursday, October 21 for another child seat safety check at the Centennial Bank in Key Largo from 10am to 2pm.

Wednesday, September 22nd, 2010

Taking advantage of a recent early release day for Monroe County schools, Troop Leader Karen Dougherty and fellow moms brought the Girl Scouts of Troop 5 to Centennial Bank in Key Largo, Florida. The Troop spent the afternoon with Branch Manager Jennifer Hawkins learning the difference between real and counterfeit bills, seeing the bank vault, counting bills, using the coin machine and of course, sending things in the tube for the drive-through. In addition to a Centennial Bank piggy bank, each member of Troop 5 earned her Girl Scouts Money Badge.

Junior Bankers from Key Largo School Visit Centennial Bank

Friday, April 9th, 2010

Last month, Centennial Bank welcomed Genessa Miranda and Noah Leach
as Junior Bankers for a day at the Key Largo community branch.  In addition to manning the drive-thru, Genessa and Noah counted money, learned how checks are deposited and learned the individual steps that make up various bank transactions.

The highlight of the day — holding $1000 dollars of cold hard cash in their hands!

What Would you Do with $100? Students in Key Largo Told Us Through Art.

Thursday, February 11th, 2010

There are many fun methods we utilize to better help children understand money and finances through our "Teach Kid's to Save" program. Recently, we posed a question to the kindergarten through fifth grade students at Key Largo Schools.  What would you do with $100 dollars?  There was a hitch though.  They couldn't just tell us their answer, we wanted to them to show us through art, and show us they did.  We received over 440 art entries depicting what could be done with $100. The entries covered a wide variety of themes including donation to the homeless, Haiti relief, animal rescue and putting the money into the bank for saving.

For each grade, judges chose a Grand prize, 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winner, for a total of 24 winners.  The winners received custom prize packages made up of art supplies and art work from Guy Harvey and Wyland, well known tropical and sea artists in the Keys. The winning submissions are posted in the lobby of the Key Largo Centennial Bank, and the total lot of submissions will be displayed on a rolling schedule throughout the month of February.  New art will be posted each week. The public is invited to view the art in the branch at 100280 Overseas Highway, Monday through Friday 9am-4pm and Saturday 9am-12pm.  Please call the branch for details – 305-676-3122.

Listed by Kindergarten up through Fifth grade, winners are as follows: Grand prize: Mackenzie Toney, Kelsea Steinmetz, Junisxa Cortes, Riley Richardson, Julie Polson, Tyler Prenesti; First place: Emily Carlisle, Ariana Juvier, Robert Valenzuela, Jennifer Avelar, Halley Lane, Daymaris Garcia; Second Place: Jennifer Marin-Perez, Karina Betancourt, Michael Cpuit, Michael Signorelli, Kiera Angelo, Amanda Midling; Third Place: Camryn Ets-Hokin, Abel Silva, Daniel Ornelas, Christopher Leiva, Adrian Arcia and Coal Doughty.  Congratulations to all!

NOTICE OF CHANGES IN TEMPORARY FDIC INSURANCE COVERAGE FOR TRANSACTION ACCOUNTS

All funds in a "noninterest-bearing transaction account" are insured in full by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation from December 31, 2010, through December 31, 2012. This temporary unlimited coverage is in addition to, and separate from, the coverage of at least $250,000 available to depositors under the FDIC's general deposit insurance rules.

The term "noninterest-bearing transaction account" includes a traditional checking account or demand deposit account on which the insured depository institution pays no interest. It also includes Interest on Lawyers Trust Accounts ("IOLTAs"). It does not include other accounts, such as traditional checking or demand deposit accounts that may earn interest, NOW accounts, and money-market deposit accounts.
